The MB is a new printer getting quite a bit of attention, and buyers should know exactly what they are getting, and the limitations of the MB Inkjets historically have catered purely to the consumer home user and other niches, as they have issues with print speed and overall cost per page when deployed for wide use. The good news is that Canon seems to recognize the challenge and isn't releasing any business products that won't be credit.

The bad news is that Canon maybe overselling what inkjet technology is capable of, at least at this price point. OK - here are the details you want to know, and my test results after using the printer intensely for a few days with extensive tweaking.

First the good news: It's hard to believe it is from an inkjet. For those worried about scanning, that functionality and the auto-duplex document feeder are also professionally done, mimicking the power of much higher end MFP's.

The overall user experience, drivers, startup, and build of the printer are very well done. The page paper cartridges is also a nice plus for a low-end mfp. I was happy to see that on first turn-on, the printer automatically connects to the canon website and downloads the latest firmware. On to the bad news: You are looking at 50 seconds per double sided page.

I suspect windows 8 users will be happy, mac users will find the printer acceptable, and linux users will be completely out of luck.

First paper jam, I suspect the printer has issues with heavyweight paper. Printing an scanning has otherwise been reliable.

First ink cartridge finally ran out. Black color as expected, looks like it lasted about pages. Color cartridges seem to be about half capacity. It appears that I'll be replacing the black cartridges every other month and the color every months.

I'm satisfied enough with that. I have also noticed that large print jobs will result in the occasional pages shooting onto the ground. Just remember to check that the output tray is fully extended occasionally to avoid it. Unlike other printers, the printer requires the full extension of the output holder. Printer still going strong..

To accurately scan these, one wants a scanner that can handle DPI, perform OCR, and automatically determine the best color level.

Also, it appears that Cannon is increasing the price on Maxify ink cartridges. We started a page print job today unattended on heavier than normal office paper and somewhere near the end the output tray overfilled and jammed the feeder. The printer did not recover well. It requested that we cancel the print job, turn the printer off, disconnected the power cable, and then restart I checked all the normal areas where jams occur and looked for any obvious damage. There is none, but the printer is really not happy and the only statement in the manual is that we should contact Canon support looks like we may have to send it back.

Despite being out of warranty, Canon provided a free replacement of the entire printer and even payed for shipping charges. It turns out that Canon uses cheap plastic gears inside the maxify printers to move the printhead, and it's possible for these plastic pieces to pop out of position when under significant stress This printer worked well out of the box: After weeks the scan to computer stopped working.

We tried to figure out how to fix but eventually quit since it's not too big a deal to use a USB drive and transfer the scans that way. After 4 months the printer started jamming regularly and when we unjammed a white piece fell out of the back.

We haven't been able to figure out how to put it back in and can't get anyone from Canon to help us. The printer continues to jam so we can't use it for printing anymore. We're going to toss it and buy a new one. Very frustrating experience both with Amazon who was the seller for not allowing us to return it and with Canon for a flakey product with impenetrable support. Top rated Most recent Top rated.

I just received this printer today and I have successfully installed it on both PC and Mac machines. I initially thought that based on some wording in the manuals I would not be able to use both connections at the same time, meaning, for us, that I would have to switch manually between USB and Wireless connections. This was, fortunately, not the case.

I was able to print from both machines without any switching on the printer. I should admit up front that my requirements for this printer were not necessarily typical, as this is not my only printer. I already have a HP monochrome laser for printing high volume text docs cheapest per page that I've found, plus I got the printer for free I also have a Xerox Phaser solid ink printer for doing color presentations.

What I needed was a relatively cheap printer that my wife and kids could use for printing random stuff mostly homework and an occasional photo from anywhere in the house from any computer. Auto duplex functionality was critical for me and I also wanted 2 paper trays 1 for paper and 1 for envelopes, in my case that could be setup individually for different uses. Print speed and print quality were important, but obviously, for the uses I list above, we are not looking at individual pixels, nor using it for high quality graphics or photos I might do one or two photos a year and I do graphics on other printers, so this is mostly for text and homework.

For my uses, the graphics and text quality is very good. A number of reviews have pointed to very slow print speeds. I have not really put this printer through any demanding paces yet, but after printing a few test pages from different computers over different network access points, I do not notice a level of slowness that would cause me any concern. I have not yet tried to print a graphics heavy, 2-sided document, so that could be a different story.

It printed equalIy fast via USB and over our wireless network, so I am happy that the wifi setup and execution seems to be working well too. I do not notice any particular shaking or vibration during printing or other uses that another reviewer highlighted.

It's not the quietest printer I've ever heard, but it's not noticeably loud nor shaky for me and it's no louder than my HP Laser nor my Xerox Phaser. For me, the final proof will be in the long-run ink costs to run and maintain the printer. I almost bought the Epson Workforce , but was concerned about the number of out-of-box issues cited by so many reviewers and also the apparently poor Epson customer service.

So far, so good on the Canon Maxify MB I will try to write an update once I've used it for longer and have used the scan and copy features, particularly with the duplex auto-feed capabilities under scrutiny.

I don't have anything negative to say about it. I consider it very good--and it does everything it says it does in my case, at least so far. First of all a great seller. Shipped early so I would receive before departing on a trip. Then followed up to make sure I received the printer. The printer is great. Quality of print on the same cheap paper is very noticeable. The ink usage is not showing after days of hard use which is a surprise as starter ink cartridges for another major brand is on the high side.

Setup is way too easy. Changed to wireless later and that took all of 2 minutes. Changed back to wired Have not set up as a dedicated fax even tho the directions are included with a phone cord. Had no intentions as I use eFax which travels with me. A major plus for me is in a matter of seconds you can change and register different paper in each tray.

Letterhead in one, plain paper in another, or 8x10 photo in one. Many options and combinations. The plain paper photos come out better than from the other brand on photo paper. On photo paper pictures are outstanding. Speeds are great and it seems quieter than what it replaced which was a relatively new, dual tray printer costing about the same amount. It scans double sided without intervention. I had 45 pages of double-sided paper to scan on. Placed it in the tray and it pulled page by page on, flipping each over to get the back side.

I found time for another project. Also, prints double-sided by flipping each page over.
